Lumina WANG

Paris, Francie

“This artist appropriates elements with ease and offers a rendering of the world that is tender and instinctive. She puts forward a personal vision that aligns with the movement of art singulier.”
Angélique Ceccarello, art critic
“Drawing inspiration from her subconscious, the artist tells stories and myths through a naïve, childlike aesthetic that contrasts with the complexity of the subjects addressed.

Viewing painting as a psychoanalytic process, she moves between figuration and abstraction, delivering a highly personal body of work situated midway between expressionism and symbolism.”
Lumina Wang, a Taiwanese-born visual artist and actress, is deeply passionate about the dramatic arts and mythology.
Her singular universe is conveyed through symbolic signs and a dramatic narrative structure. A playful ambiguity runs through her paintings: a deliberately naïve visual language used to explore complex and psychological themes such as family secrets, nostalgia and childhood trauma, hidden or asserted femininity, relational interaction, passion, and all forms of love and sexuality. Rich in metaphor and sensuality, each of Lumina Wang’s paintings represents a newly created story or myth.
Working in a liberated and intuitive manner, she paints by following her unconscious and her animal instincts.
At a certain point, however, she is able to analyze her aesthetic choices—such as the nature of the colors used or the figures depicted—until all these submerged elements connect and ultimately form a concrete narrative.
