"This is about the idea, that we tend to see the past in shining colors, seeing it in a better light than it actually was. Philosophically it's passed and is therefor without meaning since the only thing important is what "lectures" you took away from it. That forms the "dead" space around the astronaut since the future is also dead. We can't see it, only guess or suspect - based on our experiences. So in this picture our experiences form the space suit protecting us from death around us and at the same time hiding our true face. And yet this colorfully falsified past can, at times, light up the dark and dead around us."
