"When travelling to Malta one of the first things you will recognize are the typical wooden balconies ("Gallarija"). The Gallarija is a typical element of vernacular Maltese architecture, consisting of an ornate closed wooden balcony. The gallarija is closely related to the mashrabiva which are typical in Arabic architecture. Its use became widespread only in the 17th century, as not one of antique townscapes of Valletta and the harbour cities show any covered balcony. The earlier representation of a gallarija concerns the one that rounds the Old Theatre Street corner of the Grandmaster's Palace in Valletta, around the year 1675. The use of Gallariji became widespread in Valletta and the Three Cities in the 18th century, in parallel with the spread of baroque."

Please note that when a print is mounted to a matching passepartout, we secure it with framing tape, making it difficult to replace the print in the future.

Frames are available in all standard sizes: 8" × 12", 12" × 16", 18" × 24", 20" × 28", 24" × 36", 28" × 40" and the measurements refer to the size of prints it fits.
For sizes up to 20" × 28":

For sizes up to 28" × 40":

Note that there will be a protective foil on both the front-and backside of the glass that needs to be removed for best experience and crystal clear looking glass.
