Christmas Eve continues in a calm atmosphere with the Aladdin chocolate box, Benjamin the cricket and the cat eating far too much gift strings. Inside me, the anger grows over my lack of own mini skis, and the plan to borrow Helenes is now taking shape. My sister always sleeps for a very long time, which gives me the opportunity to get up on Christmas morning and jump in the winter overalls and boots early. With the mini skis under my arm, I then go to Herman's hill, life-threateningly steep, it is just a snowball throw from the house. Once at the top, I fasten the skis with the lace binding. Cross behind the heel and then forward around the ankle, then tighten everything you can. They fit perfectly. Down, for the hill, it goes way too fast. And the ride ends in a large pile of snow where one ski travels all the way around the world and the other hangs like a roll around the ankle. I do not get the buckle up as it is full of snow in the metal lock. I go home, with one ski under my arm and the other hanging around my foot. What shit skis and life-threatening they are too, the sister can well keep them herself. Right on time for her."
