I would find dead bees and flies and beetles with the prettiest colorings and preserve them in empty TicTac containers along with my other natural found objects and marvel at their beauty.
And I just loooved coloring in!
Rendering blending colours is still one of my favourite aspects of creating - in a way, trying to reflect and do justice to the beauty in the colours I see around me.
I resonate with the concept of the bowerbird / bowerbyrd: curious, eclectic, playful, curating with beautiful - and beautifully meaningful - things.
I collect ideas:- meaningful memories, magical feelings, insights; and materials:- found objects, metal hardware, ethically collected feathers, reject paint samples, repurposed or self-made frames, leftover fabric and materials.
Like a bowerbird, I’ll create with almost anything!
I create mainly painted, mixed media (paint, ink, oil pastel, pencil), and digital art, as well as occasional sculpture, sewed craft, and furniture projects.
The essence of the bowerbyrd is of creating gifts for others - and sharing and celebrating the gifts of others.
They like to bring joy with their pretty nests!
I translate this in my creative work to following my joy when I create, and bringing joy / meaning with what I create.
I hope you'll find a piece that speaks to / sparks something in you!
