"“Monster in the Hair” is all about seeing, meeting and embracing our own darkness or monsters. My daughter was often afraid that there was a monster under the bed and we talked about that there is no monster under the bed; the monsters are in our own heads. I believe also adults can relate to this theme, of the power in facing our own darkness. The series is made with mixed media. The base is watercolor on watercolor paper and then I used a black fineliner and white acrylic pencil on top. I like how the beautiful meets the nasty / brutal / dark as explained in the English term "brutiful". Brutiful = life is both intensely brutal and amazingly beautiful. It's not one or the other. It is simply and profoundly both. "
