Ben Acket

''s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands

Coincidence elevated to skill.
That is what the work of the Den Bosch artist Ben Acket (1955) shows.

The work shows us a wealth of color and splashes, offshoots and continuations. But anyone who has seen Ben Acket at work knows that he carefully constructs each of these 'coincidences'. It seems as if he has turned the 'mistakes' of his training at the painting school into art; he now gives the rejected drips and splashes of paint a place on his canvases, because he sees their raw beauty. He lets them lead a life of their own. Perhaps the sobriety of the Dutch color palette is also responsible for the lush use of color on his canvases. The life and beauty of coincidence are celebrated in his works in an exuberant and joyful explosion of color!
